Southern Railways announces cancellation of NMR train service till Nov. 15

The announcement was due to incessant rains in Nilgiris district which has caused landlines on the Nilgiris Mountain Railways line between Mettupalayam and Ooty.

Coimbatore: The Nilgiris Mountain Railways (NMR) service from Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district to Ooty stands cancelled until November 15 which has been announced by the Southern Railways..

The Nilgiris district has been receiving continuous rains in Coonoor, Burliyar and surrounding areas. Due to this, on October 22, rocks had fallen onto the mountain railway line between Kallar and Adderley railway stations. Hence, the Mettupalayam-Ooty hill train service was cancelled from October 23 till further notice, due to the work being done to repair the track.

The Southern Railways administration has now announced that due to continuous rains in the Nilgiris district, landslides continue on the Mettupalayam-Ooty hill railway line. Since railway workers are continuously working to clear the debris from the railway line, the NMR service has been cancelled till November 15.
