Tracks repaired: Iconic Nilgiris mountain train services to start today from Mettupalayam

Coimbatore: The Mettupalayam-Ooty mountain train was halted yesterday due to a landslide. The repair works were done over the two days and it has been announced that it will start today.

The Nilgiris district has received continuous rains in Coonoor and its environs. On the night of the 6th, a giant rock rolled on the tracks between the Hull Grove - Adderley railway stations on the Coonoor Mettupalayam mountain railway due to heavy rain.

Thus the mountain rail traffic was affected. Following this, the railway staff was actively involved in removing the rock and leveling the tracks. The first mountain train service starts today, Saturday, after the giant rock was blasted and turned into small stones and removed from the tracks. Mettupalayam Mountain Railway operates between Mettupalayam - Ooty and Ooty - Mettupalayam.
