EC issues stern warning on public celebrations: Officers must be placed under suspension

Chennai: The Election Commission has issued a stern statement on prohibition on victory celebrations in view of counting of votes.


Chennai: The Election Commission has issued a stern statement on prohibition on victory celebrations in view of counting of votes.

In view of the media reports that at certain locations in some states, public celebrations are being carried out which is in contravention of the directions issued by the Election Commission vide letter dated 28* April, 2021 and 1st May, 2021. Such activities must be prohibited urgently, the statement read.

The Commission has further directed that the responsible SHO(s) and other officers must be placed under suspension immediately and criminal / disciplinary actions must be initiated against them.

The Commission has viewed it very seriously and again directed that all necessary actions must be taken to ensure the strict compliance of its directions wherein all such activities have already been prohibited in view of pandemic.

The Commission has further directed that the responsible SHO(s) and other officers must be placed under suspension immediately and criminal / disciplinary actions must be initiated against them, stated the letter directed to all Chief secretaries and election officers.
