Coronavirus pandemic: ASI orders shutting of all monuments, museums until further notice

In view of the rising Coronavirus cases in India, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has ordered shutting down of all its centrally protected monuments and cancelled all permissions given for filming, photography and cultural events within its premises until further notice.

While a similar notice was issued last March by the ASI, the directive dated April 15 comes after an alarming rise in Covid cases have been reported in India.

As of Thursday, the number of new coronavirus cases in India hit a record daily high with over 2 lakh infections in a day, while the active cases surpassed the 14 lakh mark, according to the govt data. With the new cases, the total tally of Covid-19 cases in the country rose to 1,40,74,564.
