Western Ring Road project to commence next month; Rs 158 crores allocated for acquiring land in the area

Under the new project, lands from 210 land owners of Madukkarai, Thondamuthur, Sundakamuthur, Theethipalayam, Madhampatti and Perur areas have been acquired.


Coimbatore: Officials have revealed that Western Ring Road project work is all set to begin from next month. Revenue officers say that the government has allocated Rs. 158 crores as the compensation amount for the acquired land. Work at the new project is to commence from next month.

There is usually heavy traffic from Coimbatore - Palakkad Road to Mettupalayam. To ease the situation, a Western Ring Road is to be constructed from Mayilkal to Gudalur (Near Veerapandi Pirivu) which is estimated to cover a distance of 32 kms. This new project is estimated to be constructed under a budget of Rs. 1,600 crores.

As a part of the new project, lands in the surrounding areas are to be acquired from 210 land owners of Madukkarai, Thondamuthur, Sundakamuthur, Theethipalayam, Madhampatti and Perur.

District Revenue Officials say that "The government has sanctioned about Rs 158 crores to acquire the lands for the works of the first phase."

"Since the land acquisition has reached the final stage, officials say that the construction work at the Western Ring Road will begin from Mayilkal to Madhampatti for about 10kms which is said to begin next month."

"The second phase of the Western Ring Road is said to cover 10 kms connecting the areas of Chithiraichavadi, Kalikanayakkanpalayam, Vadavalli, Somaiyampalayam, Pannimadai."

"During the final stage of Western Ring Road, the areas of Nanjundapuram, Kurumbupalayam, Gudalur and Narasimhanaickenpalayam are connected."

"This Western Ring Road project is expected to be completed in 2 years and post completion of the project traffic at the roads which enter Coimbatore will be considerably reduced."

Officials further said that the project will help in the easy commute of travellers from Pallakad to Mettupalayam and Ooty.
