Coimbatore: District Collector K Rajamani on Tuesday announced that people have to apply for an e-pass to visit Valparai. The new restriction will come into from tomorrow, he informed.

The move comes after irregularities of Covid norms were reported in Valparai due to high tourist influx to the hilly terrain, after post lockdown.

Sevaral reports on tourists thronging the hilly terrain on weekends, without wearing face masks, social distancing and recklessly disposing used plates and tea cups were reported.

Observing the possibilities of a possible Covid outbreak in Valparai due to increased tourist movement, the District Collector has announced that those travelling from Coimbatore district to Valparai will have to produce valid travel reasons, while people from other districts have to obtain an e-pass.

The Collector has requested people to avoid travelling to Valparai for leisure and picnic purposes.
