Coimbatore: Coimbatore District Collector has announced that Gram Sabha meeting slotted on Gandhi Jayanthi due to COVID-19.


Coimbatore: Coimbatore District Collector has announced that Gram Sabha meeting slotted on Gandhi Jayanthi due to COVID-19.

There are 228 panchayats in Coimbatore district and over thousand villages. Gram sabha meetings are held in the villages to resolve basic and important grievances in villages like street lighting, road, drinking water, sanitation, medicine and are usually held on Republic Day, Labour Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti and action will be taken on the resolutions passed in them. This year around, these meetings have been cancelled due to COVID-19, officials informed.

District Collector Rajamani said, "Preventive measures are being taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Coimbatore district. People are being made aware of the situation in various ways because of which most of them know about the spread. In the meantime, the Gram Sabha meetings will not be held on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 as part of the coronavirus prevention measures."
