Coimbatore: Following the Sathankulam custodial deaths of the father-son duo, Jayaraj and Fenix, myriad complaints against the Friends of Police have led to their interim ban.

Friends of Police have been drawing ire and criticism from many quarters for their alleged violent behaviour and allegiance to certain political outfits following which the CB-CID conducted an enquiry with six members of the organisation.

Meanwhile, many political leaders opined that the Friends of Police should be banned all over TN. However, Friends of Police have clarified that they had nothing to do with the Sathankulam lockup deaths.

This being the case, Tamil Nadu Police has orally instructed the SP's of all districts that they should not use the Friends of Police organisation for any activities for the next two months.

It is said that discussions are underway regarding the dissolution of this organisation entirely.
