Chennai: When Unlock 1.0 was implemented across the nation on June 1, the Tamil Nadu state government chose to pursue a policy of caution and kept most of the general restrictions in operation until June 30.

However, it allowed public transport to operate except in Chennai and the three northern districts of Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu which were seeing a flare-up of coronavirus cases.

The state was divided into eight zones and buses started plying between them from June 1.

Now that the state has started witnessing the proliferation of the deadly virus in many of its districts, TN Chief Minister K Palaniswami has banned transport between the zones again. The curb will be in effect from June 25 till June 30.

He announced that the status quo will be maintained as far as local transport within districts.

The earlier mandated E-pass for travel between districts will be in effect too.
