Corporation Commissioner bans weekly shandies in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: Coimbatore City Corporation Commissioner J Sravan Kumar has banned weekly shandies in Corporation limit as the public do not follow social distancing norms.

After the government announced relaxation of lockdown recently, people's movement in the city has become very high and the number of people going to weekly markets are on the rise. Many fail to follow social distancing norms and do not wear face masks.

As COVID-19 has started to rear its head again after a virus-free status for several days,Coimbatore district administration and Corporation have been taking several measures to control the spread. On those lines, Coimbatore District Corporation commissioner banned weekly markets operating in the city.

Press release issued by Coimbatore Coimbatore Corporation commissioner stated that many are visiting weekly markets but they do not follow social distancing andwear face masks. With an imminent threat of spread of the virus, weekly shandies in the Corporation limit have been banned until further notice.

The commissioner advised people to use face masks and warned violators would be fined Rs 100 on the spot.
