Coimbatore: The PM's call to turn off the lights at 9 PM, on April 5, for 9 minutes, has led to the TNEB anticipating a heavy load on the system, if people turn off their appliances too as sudden dip in the load can cause the systems to fail.

Coimbatore: The PM's call to turn off the lights at 9 PM, on April 5, for 9 minutes, has led to the TNEB anticipating a heavy load on the system, if people turn off their appliances too as sudden dip in the load can cause the systems to fail.

They have therefore issued a request to the people, asking them to turn off only the lights at 9 PM tomorrow, and not all other electrical appliances.

If all other appliances are shut down and then turned on at the same time, it might lead to a sudden surge in the power consumption, thereby causing problems with the electricity grid.
