Coimbatore: The Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer J. Shravan Kumar notified, that "Mahavir Jayanthi is being observed on April 6, Monday. On this day, the sale of meat, poultry and fish is not allowed. Hence all the mutton stalls, beef stalls, poultry shops and pork shops will have to be closed down on this day."

Further, he also noted, "All the Corporation owned abattoirs at Ukkadam, Singanallur, Sakthi Road, Podanur and Thudiyalur and all the 10 Corporation operated meat shops will not function, on this day."
Issuing a warning to the violators he said, "Severe action will be taken against anybody violating this rule."
