Needless or continuous honking will attract Rs.1000 fine - City Police Commissioner

Coimbatore: Cracking a whip against motorists who cause noise pollution and menace through excessive honking, the City Police Commissioner has warned that violators will be imposed a fine of Rs. 1000.

Coimbatore: Cracking a whip against motorists who cause noise pollution and menace through excessive honking, the City Police Commissioner has warned that violators will be imposed a fine of Rs. 1000. 



Despite repeated warnings, the motorists especially heavy vehicles and buses have thrown the caution to the winds and cause nuisance to the people by using pressure horns and removing silencers from their vehicles. 



Recalling the existing order against honking and throwing light on the ill effects of excessive honking, City Police Commissioner, Sumit Sharan through a release has informed that "Noise pollution arising out of pressure horns is a major issue. Apart from causing noise pollution, excessive or needless honking is a huge menace on roads."

He added that excessive noise generated through honking can cause hearing impairments and noise levels surpassing 80 decibels can cause shock and heart diseases."



Several motorists, mostly bus and lorry drivers who callously were honking on Avinashi Road, Trichy Road and other busy areas were taken to task today by the traffic police, who imposed a fine of Rs. 1000.

In the event of repeated violation, severe legal action will be initiated, the Commissioner warned.
