Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Corporation has announced a ban on sale of meat, including processed meat, on January 16, on account of Thiruvalluvar day.

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Corporation has announced a ban on sale of meat, including processed meat, on January 16, on account of Thiruvalluvar day.

In a press release on Tuesday, Corporation Commissioner J. Sravan Kumar informed that all slaughterhouses operated by CCMC in Ukkadam, Singanallur, Thudiyalur, Sakthi road and Podanur will remain closed on January 16. 

The release noted that the ban on meat sale would extend to meat sellers, supermarkets and commercial complexes selling processed meat.

Violators will be dealt legally, he warned.
