Local body polls: A long spell of 'Dry Days' announced

Coimbatore: As the State is gearing up for local body polls (rural) after a long break, an unusually long spell of ‘dry days’ starting from December 25 to 30 has been announced.

Coimbatore: As the State is gearing up for local body polls (rural) after a long break, an unusually long spell of ‘dry days’ starting from December 25 to 30 has been announced.

Liquor outlets and bars across the district will close at 5 p.m. on December 25 till 5 pm of December 27, and again from 5 pm of December 28 to 5.pm of December 30. And, fully closed on January 2, 2020, the day of counting, notified the Collector on Monday in a release. 

Following the orders of the Tamil Nadu Election Commission, the District Collector has prohibited sale of liquor on the above mentioned dates. 

District Collector, K. Rajamani has announced that, "All licensed TASMAC shops (FL1), bars associated with the TASMAC, all entertainment and recreation club bars (FL2), bars at five star hotels (FL3), bars at Hotel Tamil Nadu (FL3A), Military Canteens (FL4A), bars at Airports (FL10), shops that sell foreign liquor (FL11) should observe the dry days due to the upcoming local body elections." 

As prohibition of liquor comes into 48 hours prior to the polling date, the District Collector has asked the officials to increase vigil across the shops and take appropriate action on violators. He warned that any violations will be legally dealt. 

Polling for rural body election in Tamil Nadu will be held in two phases on December 27 and December 30.
