Coimbatore: The Southern Railway has announced the cancellation of Nilgiris mountain railways (NMR) for next five days, starting from today. The century old mountain rail has been cancelled several times this season, due to round-the-clock heavy rains in Ooty and Coonoor.

Earlier, the NMR was cancelled from November 19-24 due to repeated landslides between Adderly and Hilgrove station. While the train service was expected to commence from today, heavy rains on Sunday night caused new landslides at 23 places along the track, more than ten trees were reported to have uprooted.

"The repair works are largely disrupted by rains. Now, with these new landslides, it would take another five days before we could resume services", said an official from NMR.

The tourists are left in disappointment due to the continous cancellation of the mountain rail.
