All-India strike on March 10 - Gurudas Dasgupta

There will be an all-India strike on March 10 to condemn the “anti-labour policies” of the Central government, All India Trade Union Congress general secretary Gurudas Dasgupta said here on Saturday.

Addressing reporters on the second last day of the trade union’s 41st session, he said that the AITUC would also hold a protest in New Delhi on March 20 in support of Kanhaiya Kumar and other students of Jawaharlal Nehru University.

The trade union would meet on March 30 to discuss the economic crisis that had gripped the country. He noted. The AITUC would invite other trade unions to participate in the all-India strike.

Urgent need to protest

There was an urgent need to protest because the reforms the Central government had proposed would put a question mark over the future and security of over 70 per cent labourers in the country, he said.

Intolerance

In the past three days, the AITUC members and the conference delegates discussed various pressing issues. They condemned the growing intolerance in the country and increasing efforts to deprive the labourers of their rights.
