TNAU throngs Special programme on 'Nanotechnology and Energy Technologies for Agriculture'

Two Weeks Special programme on “Nanotechnology and Energy Technologies for Agriculture” was inaugurated at the Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore. This programme marks the beginning of the TNAU – IDP International Visiting Professor Programme which aims to promote research and education in nanotechnology.


Coimbatore: On 18 July 2023, a two-week special session on "Nanotechnology and Energy Technologies for Agriculture" was inaugurated at the Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, as part of the TNAU - IDP International Visiting Professor programme.

Dr.S.Karthikeyan, Professor and Head of the Centre for Post-Harvest Technology, welcomed the gathering. Dr.A.Raviraj, Dean of AEC&RI, welcomed everyone and emphasised the relevance of nanotechnology and energy technologies in agricultural Engineering and food technology.

Dr. E. Somasundaram, Director of Agri-Business Development, also presented the felicitation address and spoke on the Residence entrepreneurship project for students with good entrepreneurial ideas and actions to receive a monthly stipend of up to Rs.30,000.

Dr. SenthilarasuSundaram, Associate Professor at Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland, enlightened students on the current and future applications of nanotechnology and encouraged them to pursue higher education at his Institute. He highlighted the successful technology development by TNAU students on Nano-cellulose particles, which is used for Biodegradable food packaging made from cow dung.



Dr.V.Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor of TNAU, gave the inaugural address. She encouraged the students to take advantage of the University's resources. The vice chancellor also stated that nanotechnology innovations can help safeguard food security and protect the population from infections in food, water, and the environment.

International Training has been completed by faculty and undergraduate students in Malaysia, Taiwan, Germany, South Korea, and Dubai. The inaugural session was attended by AEC&RI faculty and students. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr.D.Ramesh, Professor and Head of the Department of Renewable Energy Engineering.
