Agriculture University in Coimbatore conducts Agronomy Convention 2022

The Tamil Nadu Society of Agronomy, of Tamil Nadu Agriculture University( TNAU), Coimbatore organised the Agronomy Convention, 2022 entitled “Challenges and Opportunities in Agronomic Research and Education” on Friday, 29th April.


Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Agriculture University organized an Agronomy Convention 2022 on Friday, 29th April

Tamil Nadu Society of Agronomy, under the Department of Agronomy, Directorate of Crop Management, TNAU, Coimbatore organised the Agronomy Convention, 2022 entitled “Challenges and Opportunities in Agronomic Research and Education” on 29th April, Friday.



Veteran Agronomists including Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, the Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, Dr. R.M. Kathiresan, the Vice-Chancellor of Annamalai University, Chidambaram, Dr.R. Jagannathan, the Vice-Chancellor of Periyar University, Salem, Dr. U.K. Behra, Dean, College of Agriculture, Meghalaya, retired and senior Agronomists of the State have participated in the Convention.

The Tamil Nadu Society of Agronomy felicitated the Agronomists who became Vice-Chancellors of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Vice-Chancellor of Annamalai University and Periyar University, followed by honouring of the retired eminent Agronomists. Dr. R. Jegannathan, Vice- Chancellor of Periyar University insisted the use of Artificial Intelligence in future agriculture.

Dr.R.M. Kathiresan, Vice-Chancellor of Annamalai University expressed the need to find the scientific background of traditional agricultural activities and also stressed the need to collaborate agricultural research with other sectors for upliftment of the scientific and farming community.



Dr. V. Geethalakshmi, Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University expressed her thanks to all the retired Agronomists who have contributed for the development of agronomic technology interventions and education. She also insisted on the focus to undergo agronomic research to increase the crops productivity under the changing climate in a sustainable manner.

Also, a brainstorming session was conducted with the eminent retired Agronomists, Professors of TNAU and ICAR scientists to thresh out the constraints in agronomic education and research to derive an amenable solution for the future.

Dr.C.R. Chinnamuthu, Director, Crop Management and Professor and Head (Agronomy) welcomed the gathering and finally the Convention ended with vote of thanks by Dr. E. Somasundaram, Professor (Agronomy).
