Women’s Voluntary Services (WVS) Association runs a Special School which caters to the needs of intellectually-challenged children, who need special attention and aims to help blossom as individuals capable of comprehending the joys and opportunities that life affords and to empower them to overcome challenges by the acquisition of self-reliance and self-esteem.
A full time Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Speech Therapist along with state of the art equipment provides customized therapy to the children to suit each child’s needs. Physiotherapy and the Occupational Therapy department were updated with the purchase of special equipment suited to the children’s needs in the course of this year.
Apart from the school academic activities, WVS focuses on engaging the students in celebrating all national, religious festivals, sports and cultural competitions. Seminars, workshops and medical camps are also conducted at regular intervals for special educators, therapists, training students and parents.
Vocational training is imparted to the children to instill a sense of self-reliance and help them become self-sustaining. In the Vocational Training Unit, the students are currently making paper bags, paper plates, greeting cards, envelopes, files, garlands, karthigai lamps and other craft items which are being marketed. We have also participated in many exhibitions and display the items made by our students.
