PASCO Centre for Experiential Learning inaugurated at PSG iTech

Coimbatore: ‘PASCO Centre for Experiential Learning’ (PASCO CEL) was inaugurated by G. R. Karthikeyan, Chairman, PSG & Sons’ Charities at PSG iTech on January 14, 2020. 



With a motive to promote “Learning by Doing” among the students, the state of the art PASCO CEL laboratory was set up in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Set up at a cost of Rs.46 lakhs, the lab will enable students to learn basic laws such as Newton's law, Hooke's law, Faraday's laws, etc, a release from the college noted. 

The lab will enable students learn working principles of wireless sensors and bridge set to measure the forces exerted by the biceps & triceps in a Human Arm Model. The experiments involve the use of various sensors which measure parameters such as magnetic field density, force, displacement, acceleration, pressure, temperature and typical measuring devices like CO2 sensor, spirometer, heart rate sensor and more.

Twenty trained faculty members across all the five Engineering Departments in PSG iTech demonstrated various experiments using the facilities, to the students. 

They also demonstrated and explained eight experiments to the guests with posters and examples. The first year (second semester) students of all the Engineering streams will have an opportunity to explore and understand the basic science concepts through experiential learning. 

Faculty coordinators, Dr. T. Hamsapriya, Professor and Head, Department of ECE, Dr. R.Ramesh, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and P. Balakumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, who were instrumental in setting up the PASCO CEL were honoured by the Management of PSG Institutions. 

Dr P Perumal, Professor in Civil Engineering, Dr M I Abdul Aleem, Professor and Head of Civil Engineering and C P Sabariram, Assistant Professor (CSE) were honoured by the Chairman of PSG & Sons’ Charities for having authored and published text books.
