Coimbatore: Coimbatore-based fitness coach and kettlebell athlete Gowtham Shanmugam has won a gold medal in his category at the IUKL Kettlebell Sport World Championship 2026, held in Delhi, bringing laurels to the city.
Gowtham has more than 13 years of experience in fitness training and coaching. His journey has been built around athletic development, disciplined training and the promotion of kettlebell sport. Through his fitness initiative, G FIT By Gowtham, he continues to train and mentor aspiring athletes while pursuing his own competitive ambitions.
His achievement at the world championship marks a significant milestone in his sporting journey, reflecting years of dedication, consistency and perseverance. The event also provided an opportunity for him to share the international sporting platform with fellow Indian athlete and his trainee, Amudhini R. Vasanthi.
Beyond the medal, Gowtham hopes to use this achievement to bring greater recognition to kettlebell sport and encourage more aspiring athletes from Coimbatore and across Tamil Nadu to explore competitive fitness.
His journey carries a simple message for those looking to enter the sporting arena: begin with what you have, remain committed to your training and keep striving towards your goals.
Kettlebell sport is a competitive discipline in which athletes perform repeated lifts using a cast-iron or steel weight with a handle, known as a kettlebell, within a stipulated time. The sport requires a combination of strength, endurance, technique, coordination and mental focus, with athletes aiming to complete as many technically correct repetitions as possible. Unlike conventional weightlifting, it places considerable emphasis on sustained performance, efficient movement and stamina.
