Coimbatore Police, Food Safety Dept Crack Down on Banned Tobacco Sale; 53 kg Seized

Coimbatore: Coimbatore City and District Police, in coordination with the Food Safety Department, carried out a joint enforcement drive on October 9 that led to 40 arrests and the seizure of 53.536 kg of banned gutkha and other tobacco products across the district.
According to a press release issued by the Coimbatore City and District Police on October 10, inspections were conducted at 213 locations as part of efforts to curb the sale of prohibited tobacco products.
The operation resulted in the registration of 40 cases and the arrest of 40 people for violations. Officials also recommended sealing 40 shops found to be involved in the sale of banned products.
The police warned that strict legal action would be taken against those found selling prohibited tobacco products. The public has also been urged to immediately inform the police about the sale of banned tobacco products and extend cooperation to the authorities.
