National Lok Adalat in Coimbatore District Resolves 1844 Cases, Settles Rs. 40.17 Crore

National Lok Adalat held in Coimbatore on September 14, 2024, resolved 1844 cases and settled Rs. 40.17 crore. The event was presided over by District Judge G. Vijaya and attended by senior judiciary officials.



Coimbatore: The National Lok Adalat, organized by the Coimbatore District Legal Services Authority, was held on September 14, 2024, across various courts in Coimbatore district. The event, which began at 10:30 AM, was presided over by G. Vijaya, Chairperson of the Coimbatore District Legal Services Authority and Principal District Judge.

The Lok Adalat was conducted simultaneously in courts across Coimbatore, Mettupalayam, Pollachi, Valparai, Sulur, Annur, and Madukkarai. Justice D. Krishnakumar, Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court and Chairman of the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority, M. Jothiraman, Registrar General of the Madras High Court, and A. Nazir Ahmed, Member Secretary of the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority, attended the event.

In a notable gesture, Justice D. Krishnakumar presented a compensation cheque of Rs. 58,00,000 to Mahendran, his child, and his in-laws for the loss of his wife in a motor vehicle accident.

The Lok Adalat addressed various types of cases including minor criminal cases, cheque bounce cases, vehicle cases, accident cases, civil cases (land, property, partition, rental issues), labor-related cases, bank loans, educational loans, family disputes (except divorce), and pre-litigation cases. A total of 1844 cases were resolved, with a settlement amount of Rs. 40,17,08,503. Notably, 89 cases pending for over five years were also settled, and three separated couples were reunited.

The event saw the resolution of 332 motor accident compensation cases and 178 cheque bounce cases. It was conducted through 14 benches in the district headquarters and a total of 27 benches across the district, including taluk levels.

The Lok Adalat was organized by C. Rajalingam, Secretary (In-charge) of the Coimbatore District Legal Services Authority and Chief Judicial Magistrate. The District Legal Services Authority expressed gratitude to the lawyers, court staff, district administration, police department, bank and insurance company representatives, media personnel, and the general public for their cooperation in making the National Lok Adalat a success.
