On August 15, during a gram sabha meeting, a resolution was passed to conduct a vegetable market near the Government Higher Secondary School in Kongalnagaram Panchayat from August 22, 2024, to August 21, 2025. In preparation for this, an auto announcement was made yesterday in the panchayat areas, informing interested parties about the auction scheduled for today.
Prospective bidders were instructed to submit a Demand Draft (DD) of Rs. 10,000 in the name of the panchayat at the panchayat office to participate in the auction. Four individuals from Kongalnagaram Panchayat - Ramalingam, Senthil Kumar, Suresh, and Danapal - submitted their DDs to the Panchayat Secretary, Mahalinam.
However, before the auction could begin, supporters of the four bidders engaged in a heated argument, causing a commotion at the Kongalnagaram Panchayat office. The situation quickly escalated, leading to tension in the area.
In response to the disturbance, Panchayat Council President Viswanathan announced that the weekly market auction scheduled for today would be postponed without specifying a new date.
