Aogashima can only be accessed by ferry or helicopter. Its entire population occupies a tiny portion of the island that has simple amenities like a school, a post office, a general store, and a helipad. It may sound dull on paper, but Aogashima is actually a great place to relax and unwind.

Scuba diving, hiking and camping around the volcano, or relaxing in hot springs and geothermal saunas are just some of the activities residents regularly enjoy. The scalding hot steam vents on the main volcano are used for practical applications like powering the public sauna or cooking food.

While the island is technically an active volcano, it hasn't actually erupted in over 200 years.

The last recorded eruption in 1785 killed 140 people, but don't worry! Geologists don't believe the mountain will erupt anytime soon. So you can sit back, relax, enjoy a cocktail, and take in the amazing beauty of the island.
