While covering a long stretch of 865 km the previous day on Day 21, one car was unfortunately hit by a rock sheep that jumped out of nowhere in front of the car. The radiator and headlights were just about spared. However, the bottom lights had come off the hanging and it had to be fixed with duct tape till a suitable place for repairs could be found.

On Day 22, the team left the hotel at 8.30 am and were delighted at the fabulous roads and highways with newly built service areas. The team were able to cover a good distance, quickly.

The team's first stop was at a gas station. Qinghai Lake is the largest inland and saltwater lake in China. The team had to get off the highways onto the national roads to make it to the Qinghai Lake that is surrounded by mountains and grasslands. The view resembled a green blanket with herds of cattle and sheep dispersed over the meadow.

With about 200 km to go before Xining, the team was unable to stop for long at the lake. They reached Xining by 8 pm and felt that the drive was comparatively easy on Day 22 though they had covered about 815 km. Though Xining seemed like a big city, the team's guide Wangtha said that it was small by Chinese standards.
