PSG CAS wins overall championship in Inter-collegiate Athletic Meet

Coimbatore : The PSG College of Arts and Science (PSG CAS) has won the overall championship in the 37th Bharathiar University Inter-collegiate Athletics Meet held here at the Nehru Stadium between October 15-17. Towering over the rest with 81 overall points at the Meet, PSG CAS not only lifted the trophy but also set new meet records at the Meet. Following PSG CAS, with 59 points Dr. NGP College of Arts and Science secured second place at the Meet.

Coimbatore : The PSG College of Arts and Science (PSG CAS) has won the overall championship in the 37th Bharathiar University Inter-collegiate Athletics Meet held here at the Nehru Stadium between October 15-17. Towering over the rest with 81 overall points at the Meet, PSG CAS not only lifted the trophy but also set new meet records at the Meet. Following PSG CAS, with 59 points Dr. NGP College of Arts and Science secured second place at the Meet.



Around 1500 students from various colleges took part in the Meet. The Meet was conducted for both men and women teams from colleges affiliated to the Bharathiar University. Around 50 women's teams and 57 men's teams took part in the three-day Meet. Similarly in the women's category, PSGR Krishnammal College for Women lifted the trophy with 57 points and Nirmala College for Women with 53 points secured second place.



Unlike the usual athletic meets, this year, the participants have set many new records with students from various colleges displaying their top skill at the Meet.



New records

Saravanan of STC Pollachi set a new record by throwing the shotput to a distance of 16.51 metres. N Vivekananthan of PSG CAS surpassed Krish Beethovan's 10 year-old record by finishing 110 m hurdles in 14.8 seconds. R Ragul of Dr. NGP college created a new record in Javelin by throwing 62.57 m for the gold and Gaurav Yadav of Dr. NGP completed 800 m in 1:54 seconds to set a new meet record. 



Praveen Kumar of PSG CAS set a new record by completing 200 m in 21.6 sec. In 4*100, PSG CAS set a new meet record of 49.1 seconds. In the women's category, Vidhya of Kongu Arts set a new record of 55.2 seconds in 400 m. Dr. N Jayakumar, Member, Vice-Chancellor Committee, Professor and Head, Department of Bioinformatics, Bharathiar University was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony.
