Coimbatore : With great enthusiasm, students of various colleges affiliated to Bharathiar University participated in the Inter-collegiate Athletics Meet which kick-started here at the Nehru Stadium, today. Around 1500 students from various colleges are taking part in the meet. The meet is conducted for both men and women teams from colleges affiliated to the Bharathiar University. There are 50 women's teams and 57 men's teams taking part in the meet.

Various events such as 100 m, 200 m,400 m, relay, high jump, long jump, shot put, half marathon, 5 km walk, 20 km walk, triple jump, javelin throw are being conducted.

Saravanan, studying in the second year of MIB (Master of International Business) in STC college, Pollachi, has created a new University record in shot put at the meet. He beat his previous record of 14.84 metres today by throwing 16.51 metres here, and qualified to take part in the All India Inter-university Athletics Meet which is to be held in November, at Mangalore.

Vivekanthan of PSG CAS, R Abhilash of VLB CAS, P Vani of NGP CAS, S Saravanan of STC Pollachi, Ajith Kumar of Gobi Arts College, S Nandhini of PSGR Krishnammal, G Komala Devi of Gobi Arts were the successful athletes on the first day of the meet.
