Coimbatore : Coimbatore’s biggest e-sports event Gamer Connect was conducted in the city on Sunday. Sponsored by NVIDIA, gaming brands like Dell, LG and Zotac participated in the event to bring the best gaming experiences in the world to the city's gamers.
Gamer Connect is an initiative started in 2016 with the sole objective of bringing technology and gamers together, in association with major gaming brands. Gamer Connect is the only largest Gaming technology showcase platform in India. The event in Coimbatore had more than 1500 visitors which was surprisingly a good turnout for a concept that is relatively new to the city.
At Gamer Connect, gamers experienced the latest technologies like 4K Gaming, Virtual Reality, Popular AAA Games and Gaming hardware, all under one roof. According to D S Prashanth of Battlegrounds, an e-sports cafe from Coimbatore, "PC Gaming is thriving; not just across the world, but in India as well.
In fact, in the last Asian games, a guy from Gujarat won a bronze medal in e-sports. From the next Asian games, the medals won will be counted. Such is the growth of the sport. In the last four years, Steam Gamers have grown 4X. This is spectacular growth."

Coimbatore is one among six cities in India selected by NVIDIA to conduct this event. This is the first time in Tamil Nadu that such an e-sports event was organised. Battle grounds was the local hosting partner for the event.
"e-sports is the fastest growing entertainment phenomenon across the world. Now with events like Gamer Connect, gamers like us get more exposure to the latest technology in gaming. Gamers got to play on 4K, Virtual Reality, Esports PC with 144 hz and 240 hz monitors which gave us an amazing experience," according to Arun Pandian, an avid gamer.
"Coimbatore is a growing market for e-sports because of the huge pool of student community in the city and this event brought in a whole new experience for them," said Prashanth.
Hari, a third-year student, but a serious gamer while talking about the event said, "By this event, we were able to experience the brand new rtx cards which aren't available in retail but are now in Coimbatore at least. So this is the advanced graphic cards and we were able to experience it firsthand, and also couple it along with the close range projectors and UHD and 4k monitors. This experience was on a whole new level."
