Coimbatore: St. Joseph's College of Engineering, Chennai, won a cliffhanger to beat Panimalar College of Engineering, Chennai, in the Anna University Inter- zone Volleyball tournament for women hosted by KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, here on Sunday.
Coimbatore: St. Joseph's College of Engineering, Chennai, won a cliffhanger to beat Panimalar College of Engineering, Chennai, in the Anna University Inter- zone Volleyball tournament for women hosted by KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, here on Sunday.

The women from St. Joseph's were brilliant in out beating the defending champions (Pankmalar) by 2-1 in the finals to be crowned as champions. Though Panimalar won the first set by 22-25, the champions came back hard by winning the second set by 25-22. In the decider, the match was equally poised, until the winners took the two points lead to defeat the defending champions.

Kongu Engineering College, Perundurai, won the match against Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore, by 2-0 in the third place decider, to finish third in the tournament.

Dr S Selladurai, Chairman of Anna University Sports Board presented the trophies and certificates to the winners. Dr. K Bommana Raja, Principal of KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology congratulated the winners and participants. V Thambidurai and R Stalin, Physical Directors of KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology were present at the prize distribution.
