After a spectacular season in 2015, Red Bull Campus Cricket returns to bowl over budding cricketers in the country! Taking the competition up one more notch, the global, T20 college cricket tournament has added 8 new cities to its roster and will witness the highest participation ever with 96 colleges across 24 cities.
Taking place from February 29 to March 22, the Red Bull Campus Cricket city qualifiers will start simultaneously in Chandigarh and Bangalore. Followed by Kolkata, Mumbai, Baroda, Ahmedabad, Pune, Nagpur & Goa in the West; along with Jalandhar, Delhi, Jaipur, Jammu, Dehradun in the North; Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Cochin & Vizag in South and Guwahati, Ranchi, Bhubaneshwar, Lucknow & Indore in the East. The tournament is also being supported by Suzuki India this year.
The winning college from each city will then proceed to the zonal finals. Top two teams from each zone will then compete in the National finals, where the teams will play in the knock-out rounds of quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals respectively. The National winner will then represent India in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Series Championship 2016.
Indian cricketers KL Rahul and Karun Nair have been a part of the previous seasons of Red Bull Campus Cricket. Also associated closely with the tournament is Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron “Red Bull Campus Cricket is a truly global tournament and one of the few ones that give college cricketers a platform to showcase their skill. I am already looking forward to the 2016 edition,” said Aaron.
To promote the spirit of the sport and its players, Suzuki Motorcycle India have partnered with Red Bull Campus Cricket this year, and seven of the best players from the zonal and national levels of the tournament will walk away with the popular Suzuki Gixxer motorcycle.
