Coimbatore : The Nirmala College for Women has won the overall championship in the weightlifting and power lifting championship organised by the Nirmala College for Women, at the college auditorium on Tuesday.
Coimbatore : The Nirmala College for Women has won the overall championship in the weightlifting and power lifting championship organised by the Nirmala College for Women, at the college auditorium on Tuesday.
More than 40 students from eight colleges affiliated to Bharathiar University took part and exhibited their strength and skill. The competition was commenced under various weight categories from Under 47 to 84+ kilograms.
Nirmala College won the championship scoring 190 points in weightlifting and 60 points in power lifting. Bharathiar University stood second with 158 points in weightlifting and PKR Arts College, Gobichettipalayam, secured third place with 137 points.
Similarly, in power lifting, PKR Arts College with 48 points and Erode Arts College with 37 points won the second and third place in the tournament respectively.
A Sowmiya of Nirmala College was selected as the best weightlifter of the tournament and P Nishanthini of Government Arts College was awarded the strongest woman of the tournament.
K Periaiah, Inspector General, West Zone, Tamil Nadu presented the trophy and certificates to the winners as well as the best performers of the tournament. Sreemathi, Physical Director of Nirmala College was present in the prize distribution.
