Coimbatore: The sixth edition of Coimbatore marathon to create awareness on cancer evoked a good response and more than 15000 runners took part in the event.

The marathon brought to the city by Coimbatore Cancer Foundation (CCF) in association with Coimbatore Runners & Show Space Events, not only celebrates the spirit of Coimbatore but also the benevolence of the city as it is held in aid of CCF, a registered charitable trust dedicated to the counselling, care and support of cancer patients and their family members.
The Vodafone Coimbatore Marathon is recognized by the Tamil Nadu Athletic Association & the Coimbatore District Athletic Association.
The Marathon comprises three events, a 21.1 km Run (half marathon), a 10 km Run and a 5 km Run/Walk.
The Marathon route was fully supported by aid stations, hydration points, medical facilities, ambulance services, route markers, course marshals & the finish area with refreshments, etc.
Sylendra Babu, ADGP, Railways (GRP), flagged off the Coimbatore marathon and also took part in the 21km miniMarathon and completed the run.
Prize money amounting to over Rs. 2.5 lakh was presented to the winners in separate categories for men and women.
Winners list:
10 km women's category: Soumya (Chathrapathi sports club) secured the first place, Kiruthika M( genesis sports club) has won the second place.
10 km men's Category: Sathish Kumar ( Genesis sports club) and Vijay Bebin raj ( Kovai Athletic Club) has clinched the top two places.
21 km men's Category: Rajkumar ( Army) has won the first place and Sankar (Genesis sports club) secured the second place.
21 km women's category: Soniya (chathrapathy sports club) finished first and Prema ( Muthiyammal college) has finished second.
