She won two golds, one silver and a bronze in various events in the Senior Women category and Best Performer award in the first Asian Silambam Championship.

In a championship of more than 200 players from various Asian countries like Malasiya, Sri Lanka, China and Canada competing, Nivetha and Sudharshan from Coimbatore also took part to exhibit their skill in Silambam, with Nivetha coming out victorious.

Nivetha trained with Angappa Silamba Koodam as a 11-year old under the compulsion of her parents. "But later, Nivetha developed a love for the sport," says Dronachariyar T.A.ANGAPPA ( coach of Nivetha). "Nivetha is not only into Silambam but has also mastered various arts like karate, boxing and archery," he added. "Nivetha is a very dedicated student who always looks to achieve and aims high. This is the first international award for Nivetha, though for long she has been doing great in national levels and secured many gold medals in State and National level sport. We are happy for her achievement in the international arena," says S Manikandan, Assistant Coach, Angappa Silambam Koodam.
"This is my first international event and I am very happy that I have achieved it in the very first Asian meet. It was a very special feeling and this cannot be expressed in words," exulted Nivetha, holding the Indian flag high while commenting on her winning medals on an international stage. "It is a proud moment for any player," she added, while thanking her master and coach, T A Angappan and Kebiraj who were among those who supported her journey.
