Coimbatore : Coimbatore athletes shine at the 30th South Zone Athletic Championship 2018, held at Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, Vijayawada, in Andhra Pradesh (AP) on Sunday.
Coimbatore : Coimbatore athletes shine at the 30th South Zone Athletic Championship 2018, held at Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, Vijayawada, in Andhra Pradesh (AP) on Sunday.
Various athletes from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Puducherry, Telangana and Lakshadweep participated in the Championship which was held on September 15 and 16. About seven athletes from Coimbatore participated in different events at the championship. Sathish, from Corporation Higher Secondary school in Rathinapuri bagged the gold in the 3000 mts in the boys category. Sathish is an emerging athlete in the city who has been performing consistently in various events.
Akash and Kiruthika bagged bronze in the 2000 mts, while Vishrutha secured bronze in the 400 m hurdles, taking the tally to four medals.
Talking to Simplicity, Vairavanathan, the coach said that these athletes have been performing well in the district, state and national level competitions. "They are very hard working and I am very happy with the medals. I wish them all the best for their future competitions."
