Coimbatore: Income Tax defeated Vijaya Bank 82-78 in a nail-biting final of the 54th All India Basketball tournament for men to lift the PSG trophy, at the PSG Tech indoor complex in the city, on Thursday.
Coimbatore: Income Tax defeated Vijaya Bank 82-78 in a nail-biting final of the 54th All India Basketball tournament for men to lift the PSG trophy, at the PSG Tech indoor complex in the city, on Thursday.
The match was a hard fought one with the score reading 71-71 at the end of the fourth quarter. However, the team from Income Tax went on the offensive during extra time, with its players scoring quickly to win the match by a margin of 4 points, the final score reading 82-78.
In the decider for third place, Indian Bank defeated Indian Railways by 12 points, with a scoreline of 82-70.
The Income Tax team was presented with Rs 1 lakh and the PSG rolling trophy, while the runners-up in the tournament were awarded Rs.50000 and a PSG rolling trophy. The third and fourth places were awarded with Rs. 25000 and Rs. 15000 each, respectively.
The Coimbatore City Police Commissioner, K. Periaiah, awarded the prizes, with N. Goplakrishnan, Managing Trustee of PSG institutions, Dr. R. Rudramoorthy, President of PSG Sports Club and Principal of PSG Tech, G. Srinivasan, Managing Director of Srinivasan Associates Pvt. Ltd. also being present for the prize distribution.
