PSG Trophy : All India Basketball Tournament kicked off

Coimbatore: The 54th edition of PSG Trophy, an All India Basketball Tournament was kicked off at PSG Tech indoor complex here on Sunday.

Coimbatore: The 54th edition of PSG Trophy, an All India Basketball Tournament was kicked off at PSG Tech indoor complex here on Sunday.

Dr. R Rudramoorthy, President PSG Sports club and Principal of PSG college of Technology inaugurated the tournament. Todaybeing the first day, four matches were played.



In the first match played between Vijaya bank, Bangalore and ICF Chennai, Vijaya bank dominated the game from the start of the game. During the first half, Vijaya bank took a notable lead. The domination from Vijaya Bank players continued in the second half and the lead was enough to register their first victory. (Vijaya bank Vs ICF: 91-51).

In a neck-and-neck match between Indian Railways, Delhi and Customs from Kerala, the former emerged victorious. Though, both the teams displayed equal strength in the first half, (32-29). At the the first quarter of the second half, Indian Railways took a healthy10 points lead which ultimately helped them to defeat the Kerala team.



In another close match between Chennai Income Tax and Indian Air Force (IAF), Income Tax defeated IAF by nine points ( 70-61).

The last match for todaywas between Indian Bank, Chennai and Indian Army, Delhi in which the Indian Bank team made their first victory by 11 points in the 54th AIBB tournament.

Though the Indian army team took the lead in the first quarter of the match, the Indian Bank team bounced back in the second quarter of the first half and took a three points lead. Then after, Indian Bank kept their lead healthy to win the contest. Indian Bank defeated Indian army by 65-54.
