GRG Trophy basketball tournament begins tomorrow

Coimbatore: Eight all women’s teams from colleges all over the State would fight it out for the GRG Basketball Trophy, which is to begin in Coimbatore tomorrow.


Coimbatore: Eight all women’s teams from colleges all over the State would fight it out for the GRG Basketball Trophy, which is to begin in Coimbatore tomorrow.

Held as a part of the Centenary celebrations of GRG Trust, the tournament would see top colleges including Chennai MOB Vishnava College, Ethiraj College from Chennai, Lady Loak College from Madurai and PSG Krishnammal College from Coimbatore compete in Group A.

Meanwhile, teams from Hindustan University in Chennai,  PSG College of Arts and Science in Coimbatore, Women’s Christian College in Chennai and Namakkal Pavai Engineering College would be competing in Group B.

Each team would play three matches in the league stages in order to select for the semifinal stage of the tournament.

The winning team would grab a cash prize of Ra. 25,000 along with a trophy and the runner up team would be handed over a cash prize of Rs. 20,000 and a rolling shield.

The third and fourth placed teams would be given cash prizes of Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively along with certificates.

The matches would be held between 6.30 am and 10.30 am in the mornings and 3.00 pm and 7.00 pm in the evenings during match days.

Jayachitra, Professor of Physical Education said that the tournament would be inaugurated by Secretary of PSGR Krishnammal College for Women in the College’s indoor stadium tomorrow.
