Coimbatore: In the first-ever National Masters Games held in the country, the Tamil Nadu Women’s basketball team emerged winners by beating Chandigarh for 30 to 11 in the final match held at Chandigarh yesterday.
Coimbatore: In the first-ever National Masters Games held in the country, the Tamil Nadu Women’s basketball team emerged winners by beating Chandigarh for 30 to 11 in the final match held at Chandigarh yesterday.

The winning team has earlier represented Tamil Nadu in Seniors category a decade ago. When the Master's games were announced, the team pulled off this victory with just a month’s practice. In the ten-member team, eight players are from Chennai, one player from Kanyakumari and two players, Breethi Simon P and Prabha from Coimbatore.

Winning the match, Breethi Simon said,”All of us are above 30 years of age and are from different parts of the State working in different fields. When the matches were announced, we got together and practiced sincerely for a month.” The team also thanked their sponsors, Agsar Paints, Asiward Micro Finance, and Sindhi forum Coimbatore for their support.
This is the first time a National Master Games is held in the country by Masters Games Federation under the aegis of International Masters. Games Association to promote Masters sports in the country. The games are held between 3rd and 8th April in Chandigarh and Mohali. Besides Basketball, sports events in Weightlifting, Swimming, Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Football, Hockey, and Volleyball apart from Athletics is being conducted as part of the games.
