After a gap of 20 years, Coimbatore has been bestowed with the pride of hosting the National Under 17 Chess Championship. Over 170 state level players (100 boys, 70 girls) from over 21 states will be competing in this 9-day tournament to be held at Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT).
The winners from this championship will be representing India in the World Chess Championship and Commonwealth games in 2018.
"Dr N Mahalingam 28th National Under 17 Chess Championship" was inaugurated on the 24th October, 2017 by M Balasubramaniam, Correspondent, KCT and Bharath Singh Chauhan, Secretary of All India Chess Federation.
Remembering Dr.N.Mahalingam's passion for the game, Bharath Singh Chauhan, Secretary of All India Chess Federation said "The relentless support and contributions of Dr.N.Mahalingam has made Tamil Nadu the front runner in chess championship. India is becoming stronger in Chess and currently there are about 50 Grand Masters in India" he said.
Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent, KCT welcomed the, Chess Officials and players.
Ravi Kandasamy, Vice President, Dr.N.M Chess Academy, Bharath Singh Chauhan, Secretary, All India Chess Federation, R Anantharaman, Chairman-Arbiter’s Commission, P Stephen Balasamy, General Secretary, TN State Chess Association, Vijayaraghavan, Joint Secretary, TN State Chess Association, M Balasubramaniam, Correspondent, KCT were present.
