At the four-day State level Basketball tournament held in Tiruvannamalai, Coimbatore Men and Women teams (U-13) have lifted the overall championship trophies. The tournamnet started on September 24 to 27 under the aegis of the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association.
K.Sathya, A.Nithika and C.Kavya from Alvernia School, Coimbatore while S Gautam of Rajalakshmi School and C Saran of National Model School, Coimbatore were selected for the Women and Mens teams respectively to represent Tamil Nadu at the National level matches. The students will repr3esent Tamil Nadu in the national level championships to be organised at Jaipur in Rajasthan state.
In the league match, the men’s team from Coimbatore defeated Chennai team by scoring 58 points against the rival team which secured 33 points and also Cuddalore team by scoring 30 points for four points secured by the rival team. In the knock out round, Coimbatore team defeated the Virudhunagar team by scoring 30 points against the eight points secured by the rival team and thus qualified for the quarter finals.

Advancing further into finals, the Men’s team from Coimbatore defeating the teams from Dindigul and Salem districts in the quarter and semi finals. The winning team defeated Dindigul and Salem teams by scoring 70 and 51 points respectively as compared to 40 and 36 points secured by the rival teams from Dindigul and Salem districts and thus qualified to enter into finals.
In the finals, the Coimbatore team played against Tirunelveli team and lifted the championship trophy by defeating their rivals by scoring 43 points as compared to 40 points secured by the rivals.
In the Women’s championship, the team from Coimbatore defeated their rivals from Tirupur and Kanchipuram Districts in the league match by scoring 45 points for 2 and 50 points for 34 secured by the rival teams and advanced to knock out round. They qualified for finals by defeating the Chennai team and Tuticorin team by defeating them in the knock-out, quarter and semi final matches. The Coimbatore team scored 70 points and 49 points as against 36 points and 28 points secured by the losers.

In the finals, the Coimbatore Women’s team played against their rival team from Salem district by scoring 54 points as compared to 37 points secured by the rivals and retained the championship for the third time successfully.
