The 7th Common Wealth Men and Women Powerlifting Championship 2017, was held at Potchefstroom at South Africa from in which an Indian contingent of 72 players participated and the Indian power lifters have returned with a huge medal haul of 9 medals including.
It is happy new for Coimbatoreans that out of 9 medal winners from Tamilnadu a good 6 are from Coimbatore cutting across various weight categories.
About 25 countries took part in the completion including g England, South Africa, Whales, Scotland Trinidad and Tobago Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Northern Island, Namibia, Pakistan, India.
The medal winners included Vignesh Kumar (59 kg senior category) gold medal, Elango (66 kg senior category) silver medal, Bharath Palanisamy (74 kg junior category) gold medal, Manikandan (83 kg junior category) bronze medal, Venkatesh Prahu (93 kg junior category) gold medal, Ravi Shankar (105 kg junior category) silver medal, Madeshwaran (66 kg sub junior category) gold medal, Nivetha (47 kg sub junior category) gold medal, Ramakrishnan (74 kg master category gold medal).
The winning powerlifters and Indian team coach Mr.S.Nagarajan Indian Powerlifting Secretary Mr.Dada were congratulated for the massive effort and medal haul.
