IOB-Chennai defeated K.S.E.B - Kerala team scoring 77 points in a fiercely contested opening match of The 53rd PSG Basket Ball Trophy for Men on the opening day. The score cards read 77/66.
In another match Punjab Police defeated Arise Steels - Chennai by scoring 88/57. In the third match victory was tasted by Vijaya Bank team which defeated 79/66
The Indian Army team won the fourth match by scoring 80 points, and defeated Chennai customs team.
Dr.R.Rudramoorthy Principal PSG tech inaugurates the tournament and said “PSG Sports Club which has been successfully conducting an All India Basketball Tournament for Men for the past 52 years is hosting the tournament.”
Eight leading teams from our country have been selected for the Men’s tournament including Indian Army - Pune. IOB-Chennai, Indian Army - Pune, Punjab Police - Punjab Customs - Chennai, Vijaya Bank - Bangalore, K.S.E.B - Kerala, Arise Steels - Chennai, RCF - Kapurthala. All the top Indian players are playing for their respective clubs.
The winning teams in the Men section will be awarded cash prize as follows Winner Rs. 1, 00,000, Runners Rs. 50,000, Third Place Rs.25, 000 Fourth Place Rs.15,000,Best player award Rs.10, 000, Total - 2, 00,000 - Lakhs Cash Prize
The All India Tournament for Men will begin on the evening of 27th August inaugurated by the teams will play on league basis till 29th August. The Semi-Finals & Finals will be on 30th to 31st August respectively.
All the matches will be conducted at PSG TECH Indoor Sports Complex (Wooden Flooring). Daily 4 matches starts from 5 p.m. onwards.
Mr.L.Gopala Krishnan, Managing Trustee PSG Institutions will preside over the final day function. D.Lakshminarayanaswamy President Coimbatore District Cricket Association and Joint Managing Trustee of SNR Charitable Trustee have kindly consented to be the Chief Guest, Mr.G.Selvaraj President, Coimbatore District Basketball Association, Joint Managing Director of C.R.I.Pumps will be the Guest of Honor and Dr.R.Rudramoorthy President PSG Sports Club / Principal PSG Tech heads the coordination of the event.
