Coimbatore: In an electrifying start to India’s Biggest Rural Sports Festival, Isha Gramotsavam successfully conducted cluster-level competitions at more than 100 venues across South India. The top 4 teams from each cluster advance to compete in the upcoming divisional tournament next month.
Since 2004, Isha Outreach has been conducting Isha Gramtosavam with an aim to rejuvenate the spirit of rural India and bring back the zest of life. This year, more than 60,000 athletes from more than 25,000 villages across South Indian states are competing in the event.
In the first phase of the sports festival, the men's volleyball and women's throwball competition started this month at six venues in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Pondicherry. These competitions were held on August 12 and 13 in Tamil Nadu.
With participation comprising of hundreds of teams and thousands of sportsmen and women, the cluster-level volleyball and throwball competitions unfolded across 102 venues.

Prominent figures, including ministers, legislators, mayors, and panchayat council representatives, as well as officials from various political parties like DMK, AIADMK, BJP, Congress, and PMK, participated as special guests and felicitated the winning teams.
