Coimbatore: College students from Coimbatore have been chosen for the second year to compete in the energy boat race in Monaco, Europe.

There is a lot of export, import-like trade going on on the ship all over the world. In particular, the vessels are operating on fuels such as petrol and diesel, which has a major impact on marine resources.

In order to prevent this menace, the Government of Monaco encourages engineering college students from all over the world to develop alternative energy-powered boats such as battery, solar, etc., without using conventional energy, and conducts an international energy boat competition every year.

Similarly, this year, boat races will be held from July 3 to 8.

The Government of Monaco, which provides this opportunity to only one group in a country, Kumaraguru College, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu has given an opportunity to 10 students to participate in the competition.

The engineering students introduced the Yali 2.0, a 280 kg boat, which is made of organic fibre and can be operated entirely on solar, battery and hydrogen fuel, in the college premises.

Last year, they made a boat using batteries and solar and participated for the first time on behalf of India. They made a boat out of batteries and solar panels last year and competed for the first time on behalf of India. This is the second time that India have got the opportunity to compete in the tournament due to the development of a three-powered boat – battery, solar and hydrogen fuel – on behalf of the Indian team this year.
