A national level training camp for referees on the Tamil traditional art of Valari was held in Coimbatore on behalf of the Valari Sports Association of India.

The Tamils used martial arts including silambam, sword fighting and valari to defeat the enemy in battle. At present the martial arts including Valari are being forgotten with being practised.
In this situation, in order to promote the art of Valari as a sport, training is being imparted to the students as a sport of development in schools. The training camp for acting as referees in this sport was held at Ganapathy, Sri Krishna Gounder Kalyana Mandapam, Coimbatore.
Held on behalf of the Valari Sports Association of India, it was attended by valari sports coaches and referees from various states like Gujarat, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and from various districts in Tamil Nadu such as Trichy, Coimbatore, Madurai and Thanjavur.
It was held on the instructions of Mohammad Siraj Ansari, President of the Indian Sports Federation, and was presided over by the General Secretary of the Federation, Thiagu Nagaraj. Vice President Kala Nanmani Neelamekam and Technical Director Kamaraj were in the forefront.
At the training camp, training was given on the rules to be followed in the development game, and so on. According to Association officials, the training camps are aimed at rescuing the traditional Tamil art form from the brink of extinction and teaching it to today's younger generation so that today's younger generation can know the ancient arts of the Tamils.
