The new franchise for the Tamil Nadu Badminton Super League will make its debut in the second edition of the League which will be held between April 13 and 22, 2022.
Coimbatore: A franchise from Coimbatore has been formed to take part in the Tamil Nadu Badminton Super League and will be known as 'KovaiKombans.'
The Tamil Nadu Badminton Association’s (TNBA) Tamil Nadu Badminton Super League (TNBSL) Coimbatore Franchise 'Kovai Kombans' was officially launched on April 2 at the K'sirs Auditorium, Chinnavedampatti, Coimbatore. The team will debut in the upcoming TNBSL 2nd edition which is to be conducted in the Fireball Indoor Stadium, Chennai from April 13 to April 22, 2022.
The event was attended by over 400 people, physically and virtually. The Coimbatore Corporation Mayor Kalpana, Kumaragurubara Swamigal, Kaumara Madalayam, Karthikeya Sivasenapathy, State Secretary DMK Environment Wing, Manisundar Nallaswamy, State Deputy Secretary DMK Environment Wing, Tamilamarai, State Deputy Secretary DMK IT Wing, Sivakumar, TNBSL Chairman, Al Rufian, Playback Singer and various others from the media, sports and entertainment fraternity participated in the event.
Naveen Muralidhar of 'Kalakka Povathu Yaaru' fame who is an actor and mimicry artist hosted the ceremony and entertained the crowd. Nakul Prakaash, owner of 'Kovai Kombans' welcomed the gathering, and Manisundar Nallaswamy, also a badminton player thanked Kovai Kombans for organising such an event and highlighted the importance of such leagues. He requested the TNBA to keep promoting young talent. Musician Leon James‘ performance of native and other unique instruments and Al Rufian’s live music performance gave the audience a sneak preview of 'Kovai Kombans' anthem.
Mayor Kalpana along with Kumaragurubarar Swamigal and Karthikeya Sivasenapathy launched the team's official anthem “Adangathu Namma Kaalai' which has been composed by Sai Prasad and sung by Al Rufian along with an eye-catching video. The song is set to be released on the YouTube channel of Drumsticks Productions.
Kovai Komban’s coach J Vijay, a Star of India awardee addressed the gathering which comprised school students and aspiring badminton players, He delivered an insightful address regarding identifying a good coach and the importance of the role that parents play in the development of players.
The Kovai Kombans team was introduced and then honoured by Mayor A Kalpana, who presented them with mementos. Players shared their joy in being part of the Kovai Komban family. Kovai Kombans’ star female player Varshini thanked the Kovai Kombans management for selecting her and vowed to give her best this TNBSL season. Players, coaches, students, parents, guests and performers were seen enjoying themselves at the event which was followed by a grand dinner.
Sethupathy Sakthivel, owner of Kovai Kombans expressed his deep gratitude to every single person who attended the event. He thanked the Chief guests, the players, the coach, the sponsors, the digital media team, the production team, the performing artists and everyone who made the event successful.
To end the day on a lighter note, the guests played a game of badminton with the Kovai Kombans team.
