At the Silambam Premier League organised in Bengaluru participants from Coimbatore brought home 15 gold medals and 15 silver medals.
Coimbatore: Students from Coimbatore won 15 gold medals in the All India Silambam Premium League organised in Bengaluru.
The All India Silambam League was held at the Loyola Composite Pu College in Bannerghatta Road, in Bengaluru on the 21st. A contingent of 86 artists from Coimbatore participated in the contest. World Silamabatta Kazhagam Coach Prabhu and Marimuthu led the team from Coimbatore.
More than 800 participated in the national silambattam competition. A total of 43 of 86 participants from Coimbatore brought home medals in the event.

Of these, 15 participants won gold medals, and another 15 of them won silver medals, while 13 students brought home the bronze medal.
Coimbatore District President Sankaranarayanan and Coach Prabhu and Marimuthu said, “A unique syllabus has to be formulated by the central and state government as the students’ interest in Silambam is growing manifold. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin is encouraging sportspersons and parents are also taking keen interest in ensuring that their children learn silambattam.â€
He appealed to the state government to provide a large ground for Silambam training to help the students train professionally as this can help them win national level competitions.
