Avinashi: Every year the international day for disabled persons is celebrated on December 3 around the country. This year to commemorate this day aParalympic sports event was held at an indoor stadium in Avinashi.

To commemorate the international day of disabled persons, a special sports event (Paralympic games) was held at an indoor stadium Avinashi, Tirupur.
The event hosted games like seated handball and badminton games along with other sports for the disabled athletes which was organised by Phoenix Paralympics Sports Trust along with Tirupur Smart City Rotary Club.

The event was inaugurated by the District Head for the welfare of the disabled along with Head of Phoenix Paralympics Sports Trust Rajesh and Tirupur Smart City Rotary Club officials.

Coimbatore based Crown team won the first place in the volleyball game for disabled, leaving the second place to the team from Dharmapuri. The third position was placed by a team from Tirupur.
In the para badminton played with handsgames the first place was awarded to Ganesan and the second and third position was awarded to Ponnusamy and Annasamy respectively.

In the next segment of games played with legs the first place was won by Thangam, whereas the second and third position were achieved by Sampath Kumar and Rajesh Kumar respectively.
Players from 6 districts Tirupur, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Erode and Karur participated in this event. The winners were awarded with prices by Tirupur Smart City Rotary Club Officials.
